When done correctly they develop an individuals skill set, ability, fitness and self confidence. Gradings are also known as "PRESSURE TESTING" Not everyone will ever fight competitively( and they NEVER have to). However learning how YOU react and perform under the pressure of a test environment can be invaluable as a training tool and help to prepare you for a potential "threat" situation in real life. Very different from hitting the pads in a lesson! Members that grade regularly also improve far quicker than those that do not. With a training goal you have a target to aim for.
